BRIEF HISTORY
PIWACKET THEATRE FOR CHILDREN was formed in 1989 as the Children’s Outreach for OFF The CUFF Productions, a professional theatre. Piwacket toured original adaptations of fairy tales, with character education messages to children in shelters, hospitals and inner city daycares at no cost to them. In 1992, OFF The CUFF became a 501(c)3 and relocated to St. Louis, Missouri and in 1995, Piwacket added ticketed performances for the public at: The Saint Louis Art Museum, Missouri History Museum, The Chesterfield Community Theatre,
Faust Park Carousel House, Webster Recreation Complex, and Lincoln Theatre in Belleville, Illinois. Piwacket has performed 15 original shows for 200,000 people in Missouri, Illinois, New York, New Jersey and South Carolina since 1989.
In 2004 Russ Carnahan and the Missouri State House of Representatives, presented Piwcket's Creators, Edie Avioli, Scott Sears, and Charlotte Dougherty with a House Resolution acknowledging and commending their work for Piwacket Theatre for Children. The state congratulates Piwacket on its more than 13 years of providing professional children's theatre focused on early childhood character education and looks forward to seeing them become a leader in the National Character Education Initiative. This resolution was presented to Piwacket at its Annual Development Luncheon.
